Today Wyatt is 8 days old AND exactly 28 weeks gestation.
Do you know what this means?! This means that today is going to be a great day. Everything good in my life has an 8 involved in it somewhere. You want examples?
My birthday is November 8
I met my husband on October 8
He proposed on February 18
We were married on July 28
Our first apartment number was 8
We found out I was pregnant on Nov. 8
The hospital room I was in when I delivered Wyatt was room 128
I have 5 siblings and 2 parents, plus me equals 8
You see? I could go on, but I won't. The number 8 is a magical number in my life. The Chinese believe that it's a lucky number that brings good fortune.
Today is going to be a busy day. There are lots of things that are going to happen with Wyatt. Here are the plans...
X-ray to check UA line and decide if he still needs it
Change bandages
Meet with Ear Nose and Throat Dr. to see if it's safe to be extubated
Cranial ultrasound to check for bleeding in the brain.
They've also ordered an echo, but that won't be done until tomorrow or the day after to check if the PDA has closed yet.
The reason they want to do a cranial ultrasound is because Wyatt has been twitching a lot. The nurses are suspicious of it being seizures, but his Dr. doesn't think it is because each scenario where they suspected seizure activity has been different and you usually see the same thing happening each occurrence if it is a seizure. So we'll see.
I got here at 7:30 this morning so that I wouldn't miss a thing. His nurse today is freaking awesome. I've been pretty stand offish with everything so far because I don't know what is or isn't okay. I don't know if it's okay for me to just put on a mask, gown and gloves and touch Wyatt whenever I want. I don't know if it's okay for me to suit up and try and comfort him when he's having a freak out episode. I just don't know and I haven't had a nurse that has really involved me in his care yet. Well, his nurse today totally is. When it was time to change his bandages, she asked me if I would like to help. Um, YES! She said that if he does have EB that I'm going to need to know how to do this anyway so I may as well start learning now.
I couldn't agree more.
When we finished with that she even let me change his diaper and clean his mouth and eyes. It made my morning.
As I'm writing this entry, I keep stopping because something happens and I like to watch everything that is done with Wyatt.
So the ENT Dr. just came in to check out Wyatt's esophagus. When she walked in the room she introduced herself and I swear she said her name was Dr. Penguin. She looked down his throat and she said it doesn't look like he has any sloughing in there. YAY!!! There are a ton of secretions which isn't unusual because one, babies produce a lot of saliva and drool all over the place and two, he hasn't been able to swallow because the tube is in the way. This means that they might extubate him today! His Dr. hasn't come by yet to tell me what the plans are, but I fully expect to see that tube out either today or tomorrow. While the ENT called Wyatt's Dr. to give him the results, his nurse and I tried to figure out of the ENT's name was actually Dr. Penguin. It's not. It's Dr. Peng. We were both a little disappointed. lol
He is so precious to my heart <3
Jared says he's doing the Michael Jackson here haha
Anyway, I think that's about it for now. So far its a great day and I know it will stay that way :)
I just wanted to say hi, I am from the July 2012 board, and am LDS too :) where are you located? Is your ward helping you? Good luck and lots of prayers for you and Wyatt :$
ReplyDeleteWe live just outside of LA and yes our ward is helping us. They just organized for us to start receiving meals this week which is going to help a TON!
DeleteGood morning! I'm stopping in from the July 2012 birth board. Many thoughts and prayers have been with you through this last week.
ReplyDeleteI realize the results indicating whether or not Wyatt does have EB are pending, but I follow another sweet boy who has EB and he and his mommy are very involved with The Butterfly Fund and cannot say enough great things about Ms. Laurie Sterner. They provide loads of assistance to families with children with EB. If you would like to know more, visit http://thebutterflyfund.org/.
I will continue to pray for your family every day. I think Wyatt has already proven what a fighter he is!! God bless you.
Thank you!!!
