OT Evaluation

Last week, Wyatt's OT gave him the Bayley test {the test that sees where Wyatt is developmentally}.  He's already had this test done by the high risk infant clinic, but she had to do her own in order to assess what our goals for him will be over the next 6 months.  So when she came this week she discussed the results of the test with me.

Wyatt is 9.5 months old, 6.5 months adjusted
this is approximately what he tested at {from what I remember}

Gross motor skills, he tested at the level of a 3.5 month old baby
Fine motor skills, he tested 4.5 months
Cognitive development, he tested 6 months {so pretty much on track}
Behavioral development, he tested around 5 months

As long as he's at least testing at his adjusted age they're not too worried about him.  So I'll explain this... gross motor skills, is rolling around, sitting up and stuff like that.
An example of fine motor skills is picking up objects.
Cognitive development is problem solving skills
and behavioral development is how Wyatt acts in different situations and around different people.

I'll admit it.  I knew Wyatt was behind, but I didn't realize that he's this behind.

I turned in the letter from Wyatt's dr. recommending PT 2x a week and upping OT to 1x a week.  That should kick in about a month from now.  And Wyatt's OT told me that we are going to be working a lot more aggressively with him.  No more mrs. nice gals!

She submitted the report this week and I should get my official copy in a couple of weeks, I'll post the official score when I have it.

Anyway, since blogs without pictures are boring, here's the token picture :)

Don't forget to donate to the Running for Research Fundraiser!  The Donate button is located at the toward the top right of this blog :)  Jared is up to running 4 miles and my fat butt is stuck at 2 but hoping to get up to 3 miles tomorrow.

We survived

I know this is a week late, but obviously Wyatt and I both survived being separated for a few days!  I had a blast in Glamis and loved being able to have some much needed one on one time with Jared.  And Wyatt looks like he had fun with his Auntie.

My SIL was awesome about staying connected with me and sent pictures and videos of Wyatt throughout our trip.  It made it so my Wyatt tank didn't get too empty but I was still really anxious to get back to him.

I have learned that 2 years of not riding, with a pregnancy in between, really did a number on me.  I was kind of nervous on our first ride but got the hang of it again pretty quickly.  I wasn't able to go as fast, and actually found that I didn't want to because 'what if something happens to me?  I haven't done a living will yet!  What would happen to Wyatt?!'  {Needless to say, our goal for February is to get a living will done}

So on about the weekend... The weather couldn't have been more perfect!
The first day and a half we really didn't do a ton of riding, we mostly relaxed and just hung out with eachother.  It felt really weird to not have somebody depending on me.

Anyway, the first day we were there we hooked up with Jareds cousins husband {did you follow that? haha}  He has a side by side that he let Jared take out for a ride.  During that ride, I saw my life flash before my eyes.  I seriously thought I was going to die, so I did a super dumb thing...  I closed my eyes and willed the ride to be over.  Welllll... we went over this really bumpy area and my head jerked forward which made my helmet smash my hand which was holding onto the oh crap bar.  So that really hurt.  To add to the fun-ness of it all, my eyes being closed and all the jerking around gave me motion sickness {what?!  I don't get motion sickness!}  When the ride of hell was finally over I was ready to kill Jared and NEVER EVER BUY ONE OF THOSE THINGS!!!  Jared is sad but whatever, he'll get over it haha.  We went back over to our camp and I threw up a little and couldn't ride for the rest of the day, so that kind of sucked, but it was still fun to just hang out with Jared.
This was my view out the back of the trailer :)
One of my favorite parts about Glamis are the nightly bonfires
Friday nights fire
 Saturday nights fire
This is one of the pictures that my SIL sent me while we were gone.  It made me really miss that sweet little guy! {not that I didn't already}
and a video!
I love that giggle :)

Saturday was gorgeous.  Blue skies all around.
 We went on a really long ride this day.  Like, 2.5 hours long.  My thumb was so sore!  But it was awesome.  We went farther than we've ever gone before and Jared took me to a special place he found.
This is literally in the middle of the dunes.  It's not on a map, there is no trail, Jared just happened on it one day about a year ago.  At the base are plaques commemorating people that have passed away.  The base is made out of metal, so most of them are either nailed or soldered on.
This is the place that Jared and I had discussed spreading Michael's ashes.
As I stood there watching the flag wave in the air, I reflected over the past year.  All of it's ups and downs, positives and negatives.  I tried to blink away my tears as I turned to look at Jared when I realized he was crying too.  He reached over to hug me and said "I miss Michael"... I miss him too sweetie...
The sunset that night was gorgeous like always.  I love Glamis sunsets.
The trip was fun, but when Sunday came I was anxious to get back to my little guy.  He had fun with auntie Crystal, but he was so excited to see his mommy and daddy again :)
Here's us high-fiving
He really is such a ladies man

Fundraiser time!

Reality smacked me in the face a couple of weeks ago when I realized that my half marathon is 16, now 14 weeks away.  What half marathon you say?  Let me tell you!!!

Jared and I have committed ourselves to run the Orange County Half Marathon on May 5, 2013.  Why?

#1 To raise awareness about ichthyosis
#2 To raise as much money as we can to donate to FIRST for research

FIRST is a the only non-profit organization in the US that is committed to supportive families affected by ichthyosis {which is what Wyatt has}.  Most of the money that they get for research projects are donations {those projects don't fund themselves!} and research is the only way to find a CURE.

Jared and I have decided to try and raise $60,000 to donate for research {which is the approximate cost of a small project} and we need your help :)

Please donate to our cause and ask your friends and family to join in.  You can pledge a certain dollar amount per mile we will be running {which is 13.1 miles, yikes!} or you can just choose a number that sounds good to you.  We are accepting donations through the paypal link located on the top right of this blog now through the end of May.  So help spread the word!

13.1 miles is an awfully long way to run so we're really hoping to pull some good numbers!

P.S.  Wyatt is going to be featured in a new blog next week!  It's called tiny superheroes and it is adorable.  So stay tuned for the link! :)

A weekend apart

Tomorrow Jared and I are going to Glamis!

I'm so torn about going.  I'm excited because it's been 2 years since I've been riding, but I'm not excited because I'm leaving Wyatt behind.  {My awesome SIL is watching him for us!}

I think I know my SIL is going to do an amazing job taking care of him.
1. Because she's an awesome mom herself.
2. She's a great listener/learner.
3. I'm typing up Wyatt's schedule and care routine so that she knows exactly what to do.  Plus if anything comes up I'll just be a phone call away.

Here's the dumb reason I'm hesitant about leaving him...
what if when I come back he doesn't want to leave?
What if he likes her better than me?!
I know I'm just being dumb, but EVERYONE likes my SIL.  She's one of those people that you can't hate even if you want to because they're so freaking nice.

I need to just get over it and enjoy myself this weekend.  The last time I went more than a few hours away from Wyatt was when Jared and I went to the FIRST conference back in June so maybe that's why I'm being dumb.  Idk.

Jared and I definitely need a weekend away to ourselves so I'm super grateful to my SIL for making it happen :)
