Home again home again jiggity jig

 Wyatt's been home now for just over a week and he's stayed home.  Hooray!  We did have to bring him in to the ER last Monday for pain issues... but after an all-nighter in the ER he was sent back home with us {with a rx for some morphine in case he needed it again.} Thank goodness!
So far he's only been bad enough to need a dose of the morphine on three separate days.  I'd say that's pretty good.

It's so wonderful to have our family together again at home.  And I'm glad that this time I have resources in place for those just in case situations.  It's definitely been a change getting used to having a little baby in the house!  Wyatt is 3.5 months old {17 weeks}, 4 weeks adjusted.  Because Wyatt is a preemie, pretty much everything in his early life will be dictated by his adjusted age, not actual.  So he acts like a one month old baby.  He eats, sleeps, poops and cries.  He's on a 3 hour schedule right now and I can't wait until he can finally skip a feeding at night.  I miss sleep! :)  Welcome to motherhood right?  I think that he is happier at home.  I think it was definitely an adjustment for him too, but now that he's used to it, I think he's happy.  It's nice being able to take care of my own baby without having to depend on someone else to bring me his bottle, or to fight pharmacy to get the dang aquaphor up to his room already.  I get to do it all myself.  I don't get a whole lot else done, but I do meet all of his needs {... I think...}

Cousin Jacob was pretty excited to meet Wyatt and he came over the day after we got home and read half of The Lorax to him.  It was so cute to see Wyatt intently watching his cousin as he was read to, and Jacob went through and explained all of the things that were on each of the pages.
I can tell they're going to be good friends.
It's been interesting learning what works for Wyatt and what doesn't.  He has acid reflux pretty bad and after a really bad night at home we realized that pretty much the only thing left that was different from the hospital was his bed.  So we angled his mattress up.  We get along much better now.
He doesn't super dig his swing... so he only gets a few minutes in it every day just so he can start getting used to it.
Baths are a hot commodity in our house.  Wyatt gets a good 10 minute soak every day.  Sometimes he likes it, sometimes he hates it.  But either way it's great for his skin. :)
He's awake a lot more than I think the average 1 month old is, but when he's awake and happy, he's a crack up.  Sometimes he'll just open his eyes up as big as they can get and take everything in around him.
I have never in my life appreciated Jared more than I have these past few months.  He has been my rock.  And when I need a break, even if he's tired, he lets me have it. <3 p="p">
Here are the boys watching tv together.
Wyatt's skin seems to be doing pretty good here at home.  I'll have to remember to take some pics for my next post.  We have a humidifier in his room that keeps the humidity level between 40-45% and we've got his little room set up perfect for his diaper change/aquaphor routine.  And we're all stocked up on aquaphor.
 This kid goes through a 14 oz jar of the stuff in 1.5-2 days so our current supply should last us about 2 months.  I just ordered some other products to try on his skin (vanicream and cetaphil) during the day, so fingers crossed they work well because cleaning aquaphor out of his blankets and clothes is a JOB!

Can you believe my little guy is almost 4 months old?  Crazy.

  1. So glad that Wyatt had a successful transition this time! I love reading about his milestones,and love to hear that he is doing well! You're doing such an amazing job for a first time mom! I think you are handling this much better than even some experienced moms would. It's awesome news that his skin is doing well at home. Vanicream has worked miracles for my boys' eczema. I hope that it will work for your little guy! It's definitely is easier to wash from clothes, and somewhat cheaper than the Aquaphor. I hope that you guys were able to qualify for the medical program that you blogged about. I know that aquaphor is quite costly- especially when you have to purchase such big quantities!

    Thanks for allowing us to follow along with Wyatt's story! You are always in our prayers.

  2. check with your md's and see if you can use cerave, that is what I use on my psoriasis, much more moisturizing than cetaphil, I don't know the vanicream. sounds like all is going well, we had to raise the girls heads as well till they could stand up in the crib and then it became a hazard because they could climb out. keep up the great work! love to you all
