My little man has been home for a little over a month!
Since coming home, he is officially no longer a nudist. 3 weeks ago I started putting him in clothes. Just footy jammies and sleep sacks at first to see how he would tolerate them. After about a week of clothes he wore his first 'outfit', a little onsie with some overalls and he looked SOOO cute! :)
The next day Wyatt went to church for the first time.
About a week ago he went 4 hours between feeds for the first time and a couple of days ago went 5 hours. It was wonderful being able to actually get some sleep at night! I tried having him eat every 4 hours during the day, but then his skin started getting drier, so I'm having him eat 3-3.5 hours apart during the day so he can start hydrated a little better.
As far as his skin goes... I think Jared and I are doing a bomb job taking care of him. He seems to be comfortable for the most part as evidenced by not needing Tylenol or Morphine for over 2 weeks. TWO WEEKS! :) The aquaphoring at night and after baths and lotioning during the day seems to be working pretty well. The aquaphor works better than anything, but it just isn't ideal to slather him with that during the day when I'm taking him around with me. Using lotion has made laundry way easier too. He cries bloody hell while I'm lotioning and dressing him though and it makes me feel soooo bad. All my ichthyosis mommy friends can relate to me on this one. It's such a double edged sword. You have to lotion these sweet babes so that they can be comfortable, but while you're doing so, you're practically torturing them. At first it wasn't as bad because, well, you do what you gotta do... but now Wyatt's tear ducts are developing and when I look at him with tears in his little eyes it just breaks my heart. I know this hurts him, but not lotioning him will hurt him worse. :( When I'm finished I put my hands up and tell him "All done!" with a big smile and most of the time he will stop crying.
A week or two ago I did notice that he was beginning to scale on the top of his head.
The scales were pretty small and they were soft because I'm always moisturizing his skin, but they were definitely starting to build up and become noticeable. So I used my resources to get suggestions on what to do. I started putting a washcloth on his head during his soaks in his bath so that the scales could get nice and soft and be easy to scrub off. Then after his bath I moisturized his head with Vanicream. I'm pretty happy with how his head looks now.
It's a pretty considerable difference. The only thing that bums me out with this process is it takes some hair off with it. My poor boy is going to be bald forever! {I guess he'll really look like his dad, haha}
It's fun seeing Wyatt grow up and start acting differently. He's way more alert than when he first came home and is starting to be a little fun to play with. He still needs to work on head control, but when I hold him he tries really hard to look around. :) I'm looking forward to a few months from now when we can really play together.
This coming Sunday Wyatt is going to be given his baby blessing and naming at church. My parents, brothers, grandma, 2 sister in laws and some aunts and uncles are coming in town for the occasion and I can't WAIT! Most of them haven't met Wyatt yet so it's going to be so much fun showing off my little man.
