The past week has been super busy. Hence my MIA status.
My parents flew in last Friday evening and I was soooo excited to see them! They came straight to the hospital so they could meet their grandson for the very first time. If people could glow, my parents would have been glowing. They are such proud grandparents! :) And my dad says that my pictures of Wyatt don't do him justice, he's actually much cuter in person. We hung out at the hospital in Wyatt's room and visited with eachother. My mom practically flipped when I told her that if she wanted to put on a gown and gloves she could touch Wyatt. Women and babies... haha. My mom and dad stayed until a little after 9 when Wyatt's nurse told them that visiting hours were only until 9 so they needed to go.
On Saturday we all hung out at the hospital during the day. My mom helped with a couple of Wyatt's assessments and even held the gravity tube during his feeding. That night my dad took us all out to dinner for Mothers Day. :) We went to this restaurant in Hollywood called STK and oh em gee, it was the fanciest most delicious place that I think I have EVER eaten at in my whole entire life.
We ordered the Tuna TarTare, Shrimp Rice Krispies and Lump Crab Cakes for appetizers. Then everyone ordered a steak for dinner {of course}. The sides are made for 2 people to share, so we all picked one, asparagus, mac and cheese, parmesan truffle fries and heirloom tomatoes {Yum!!!}
Dessert was divine.
I wish I would have remembered to take pictures of all the food because it was all exquisite. And it was all beautifully plated. This was seriously the nicest restaurant I have been to in my entire life.
Thanks for the awesome Mother's Day present dad!!! :)
Sunday morning at 3 am I got a call from the hospital. They had done a dressing change on Wyatts pic line (the IV that Wyatt gets medicine and nutrition juice through) and while doing so, the nurse thought she saw it slip a little. So they ordered an x-ray and sure enough, the pic line had slipped a little. It's still central, but barely barely. The phone call was to tell me that they REALLY needed us to consider allowing them to do a broviac on Wyatt so they could remove the pic. They also needed to give him a blood transfusion because something in his blood work came back low. I don't understand why they keep bringing up a broviac because the surgeon told me that he wasn't comfortable doing one unless they were going to be drawing labs and doing a lot of transfusions. That because of Wyatt's skin breakdown, no matter where there was a line he was going to be at increased risk for infection. I'm not going to agree to that surgery unless it is the last resort. My motherly instincts are just telling me it's not the right path to go down.
When I got to the hospital the next morning I wasn't prepared for what I had to see. They had attempted a IV in one foot, but it came out so they had to put it in his other foot. His right leg was left looking like it had when he was born. Major sloughing and the remaining skin was kind of white and ashy looking so I knew it would only be a matter of time before that sloughed off as well. His left leg had some sloughing, but not nearly as bad as his right. He also had some sloughing on his chest and belly and if I had to guess, it looks like he's going to slough all of that skin. Other than being pissed when we would change his diaper or start aquaphoring his body, he seemed to be relatively happy and not really in pain. He spent some time sleeping on his tummy that day and I think he kind of loves it.
He knocks right out and gets so comfortable that sometimes he forgets that he's supposed to breathe. So he de-sats but then comes back up on his own pretty quickly.
Sunday night Wyatt got his very first bath ever. He did not like it at all. At. All. The nurse held him over a little pink bin and I poured lukewarm water over his little body. We patted him dry and then aquaphored him up to seal in the moisture. While I was applying the aquaphor, Jared told Wyatt stories about 4-wheeling and all the places that we want to take him to ride. Wyatt was calm and watched Jared the whole time he was talking to him. It was a precious father son bonding moment.
I spent the night at my parents hotel so that I could spend some more time with them before they left. Their trip seemed to go way too fast and I really wish that they lived closer. My dad was sweet and told me that he wanted me to sleep in the bed with my mom and he made a bed up for himself on the floor with some couch cushions. He said that since he's an Eagle Scout he knows how to rough it. :)
When I came in Monday morning, his skin {where it wasn't sloughing} looked great. I think the bath helped hydrate his skin a little better so I'm wanting to see if he can start getting baths every other day but I want to consult with dermatology first.
My parents left around 1:30 in the afternoon and it made me sad to see them go. I love that they were able to come out and meet Wyatt though. My mom and dad definitely make some CUTE grandparents!
After they left, some volunteers came by the hospital and donated a bunch of blankets to babies in the NICCU. Wyatt got a pirate blanket :)

Monday night Jared spent some daddy son bonding time with Wyatt.
I love that he is getting more active and that he's looking around more.
I love that kid.

He is one handsome little guy. I wish your parents lived there and you could see them all the time. There's nothing like your own mommy being there when you're having a hard time and going through something rough. I remember after I had Arvilla my mom would come visit me at our house for the morning for a week, and every day when she'd leave after lunch I'd cry as she walked out of the door.
ReplyDeleteAny pics with the grandparents? :)
ReplyDeleteso glad you had a great visit. I'm catching up with you since our little twins decided to come last week at 30weeks 1day...they are in the NICU as well. They weigh about 3.5lbs and are doing really well.
ReplyDeleteYou and you family are in my prayers. I'm so glad you are able to hold them now. Being able to hold them is what keeps me going...
Take care and I'll be checking in on you guys.
We had a really great visit and you're right, it's hard to describe how wonderful it was to finally meet and spend some time with Wyatt. He is such a cutie! I still owe you some pics from the visit and will get them to you ASAP. Can't wait to visit again very soon! <3
