Since I'm here at the Childrens Hospital all day every day, I decided to start learning more about the different programs that the hospital offers.
They offer parenting classes to teach different things that will help you with your preemie {last week I learned about Kangaroo Care and I can't wait until I'm eligible for this!}. There is Music Therapy Support Services where someone comes to babies room and plays a guitar and sings songs to baby {the nurses say he's too young for that one right now}. And my favorite that I learned about yesterday... Literally Healing.
The Literally Healing program is just that, healing through literature. They have a gifting library where you can go and pick up a free book every single day that baby is here. This is the only hospital in the nation and possibly the world that has a program like this set up, and I couldn't be more ecstatic about it. When I went there yesterday, a really nice lady named Claire showed me around and told me about the entire program {Claire is from London and had the coolest accent ever! I wish I had a British accent... I would totally talk all the time just to hear how cool I sounded}. She gave me this book called
'Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You' by Nancy Tillman.
When I got back to the room, I started reading it to Wyatt and I didn't even get through the first page before I started crying. The first page of the book reads:
"I wanted you more than you ever will know,
so I sent love to follow wherever you go."
As I read that line, even though I know I love him more than anything, the truth of that statement hit me right in the gut. I did want Wyatt more than he, or even I, will ever be able to comprehend. And when I go home at night I send him my love and constantly think about him. There is this song by the Dixie Chicks that I absolutely love for my little man. It's called Godspeed. Every night when I leave and then as I lay in bed before I fall sleep I think of the chorus of that song:
"Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams"
I loved that song for him before he came into this world and sang it to him the last few weeks I was pregnant.
I'm so glad that I met Claire, and that she found that book for me. She really couldn't have picked anything better. And I'm so grateful for the gifting library. Because of this program, Wyatt is going to have a little library in his room. :) I'll be able to fill his bookshelves. But beyond that and most importantly to me, I'm going to be able to sit next to him while he's here and read to him. I want my voice to be something that he can recognize and count on to always be there. Since I can't hold him, I'll bond with him through reading and he will grow up to be a great reader, just like me.

That is perfect...what a thoughtful gift to patients, parents and families. What an awesome hospital to have such a meaningful program. I'm so glad you are able to take advantage of your time in the hospital with Wyatt.
